Formal white evening gowns, red roses and a father-daughter waltz — parental tears and teen pride. These are the traditional trappings for the annual Evergreen Ball at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel’s grand ballroom.

Over the years, little has changed with the ball — the elegance, the excitement and the charming young ladies who managed to place volunteering atop their list of high school activities, from sports and clubs to academics and social events, as well as the all-encompassing college application process.

The ball, presented by Las Madrecitas, an auxiliary of the Charitable Children’s Guild of the Orthopaedic Institute for Children, honored and recognized the Las Niñas 2018 senior class for their four years of volunteer service to Orthopaedic Institute for Children and other local nonprofits.

In addition to working with OIC patients and health-care professionals, Las Niñas and Las Madrecitas members also raise money for OIC from annual fall and holiday fundraisers, raffle ticket sales, See’s candy sales and an annual spring fashion show.

At the ball, Dr. Anthony Scaduto, OIC’s president and chief executive officer, presented honorees with special, white gold medallions in recognition of service and dedication. Each girl has contributed several hundred hours to OIC and the community throughout her high school years.

This year’s honorees included Julia Davis, Madeline Babros, Emily Warter, Adelaide Brannan, Emily Levin, Catherine Mihm, Marissa Hong, Michelle Renslo, Mia Daly, Mia Gioiello, Julia Cotter, Melia Harlan, Helena Ruzic, Tate Robinson, Natalie Watts, Hanalei Emnace, Kara Lee, Audrey Yun and Daniella Cooper.

The final event for the 2018 Las Niñas class will be a luncheon-fashion show on March 31 at Terranea Resort. The event, which is open to the public, also includes shopping with boutique vendors.

Las Niñas and Las Madrecitas membership is open to mothers and daughters who are interested in volunteering at the hospital and helping with local fundraising events.
